About Us

Relational Skills is a nonprofit professional teaching and counseling organization. We provide counseling to individuals and married couples. We also offer training to become a Christian counselor. We partner with the National Christian Counseling Association (N.C.C.A.) as a Certified Academic Institute to provide training and licensure and award bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.

N.C.C.A. includes ministers, counselors, medical doctors, attorneys, and educators. For over 40 years, N.C.C.A. has assisted thousands of Christians in fulfilling their call in the counseling ministry.

Our vision is to help hurting individuals and marriages find healing and equip Christians who believe God has called them into the counseling ministry.

Counselors Anita and JM Arrunategui are the founders of Relational Skills Counseling.

Our Story

Founders JM and Anita desire to be instruments of hope and healing for every client they encounter. After experiencing recovery from a broken marriage and traumatic childhood events, they are overcomers and display knowledge, wisdom, and empathy to clear that path for others.

They abide by the NCCA’s Code of Ethical Standards.

Meet The Founders

Anita J Arrunategui Ph.D.

Founder Anita J. Arrunategui holds a Doctorate from Colorado Theological Seminary as a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor, a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Christian Counseling, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Liberty University. She is a Certified Temperament Counselor and certified in Integrated Marriage & Family Therapy. Additionally, she has a Diplomate as a Clinical Supervisor for the National Christian Counselors Association (NCCA) and holds a C.A.I. (Certified Academic Institution) for Temperament training and Degree Program through NCCA. Anita also has an Advanced-Master in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.) certification. She is a certified Symbis facilitator and founding member, certified by the X.O. Marriage Mediators Institute. Outside of sessions, Anita enjoys outdoor activities such as going to the beach and taking walks with her husband of thirty-nine years! She also loves traveling to connect with her family and friends. Anita has four children, three stepchildren, and five beautiful granddaughters.

J M Arrunategui.M.D.

Dr. JM Arrunategui is a Founder and CEO of Relational Skills. He previously worked as an OB-GYN Physician and is a Life Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also served as the CEO of his medical practice for 30 years. Dr. Arrunategui has taken part in 16 medical mission trips with TeamHealthCare to various countries worldwide, providing medical care and hope to those in need. He is now a National Christian Counselors Association (NCCA) Certified and Licensed Pastoral Counselor, as well as a Certified and Licensed Temperament Counselor. Moreover, he is a certified Symbis facilitator and a founding member certified by the XO Marriage Mediators Institute.

Dr. Arrunategui and his wife have been married for thirty-nine years, enjoy long morning walks, frequently attend Bible study groups, and have weekly date nights. They are dedicated to helping couples and individuals who are facing challenges. Dr. Arrunategui cherishes spending time with his wife, seven children, and five wonderful granddaughters.
